Local NHS leaders are reminding residents to keep warm and keep well over the next few weeks as the country braces itself for the arrival of winter weather.

Carers' Stress and Mood Management Course

In collaboration with South Essex Partnership Trust (SEPT) and The Southend Carers Forum, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is offering a six week course on Stress and Mood Management for Carers.

This course, specifically designed for adult Carers will offer simple, practical and effective tools and techniques to support Carers to maintain their emotional wellbeing.  It is an excellent opportunity for Carers to network and learn from each other.

The first session will start on Friday 22 January 2016 from 10:00 – 11:30 AM at the Southend  Adult Community College (Ambleside) and will it will run until Friday 26 February 2016.

The NHS in south east Essex has developed a guide containing useful information about local health services that will be open over the Christmas period. The guide, which includes pharmacy opening hours, is being widely circulated in the community and is available here.

End of life training for care home staff

A major new training opportunity is being offered in Southend to advance end of life care in the borough’s care homes. NHS Southend Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Southend Borough Council are offering the full-funded Gold Standard Framework course to five homes.

Health leaders in Southend say more GP appointments would be available for patients in the borough with a genuine need if local pharmacists were used more often for minor ailments. NHS Southend Clinical Commissioning Group and the Essex Local Pharmaceutical Committee both say a better use of pharmacists would reduce pressure on GPs.
