NHS Mandate

The first Mandate between the Government and the NHS Commissioning Board, setting out the ambitions for the health service for the next two years, was published on 13 November 2012.

The Mandate reaffirms the Government’s commitment to an NHS that remains comprehensive and universal – available to all, based on clinical need and not ability to pay – and that is able to meet patients’ needs and expectations now and in the future.

In March 2012, the Health and Social Care Bill gained Royal Assent to become the Health and Social Care Act (2012).

The core principles of the Act mean that doctors and nurses will be able to tailor services for their patients, more choice will be given to patients over how they are treated, and bureaucracy in the NHS will be reduced. Patients will benefit from a renewed focus on improving quality and outcomes and there will be more of a focus on integration i.e. working with other local partners such as local authorities to improve the health and wellbeing of local residents.

Landmark study into long term conditions care in Southend

A LANDMARK study into how people with long term conditions are cared for is to start in Southend.

Southend Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has been chosen as one of only six national pilot sites across the country, from 90 applicants.

The initiative, which is led by the Department of Health and comes with £90k-worth of funding, will see the CCG focus over the next year on the care people with long term conditions receive.
